New Martinsville: Originally Chartered as Martinsville
in 1838 by the General Assembly of Virginia and name changed to
New Martinsville about 1846. Named for Presley Martin, one of the
first settlers, owners of the name upon which the city is located.
Present charter by Acts of the Legislature.
