Morgan County
Morgan County lays in the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia and is located in the Potomac River basin.

First surveyed by George Washington in 1747-48, the area had attracted enough settlers by 1754 to develop a local government.

Hampshire County was formed which then included present-day Morgan, Hardy, Grant and Mineral counties. Early property owners included seven members of the Continental Congress and three signers of the Declaration of Independence, as well as three signers of Constitution.

Morgan County was formed in 1820 from parts of Berkeley and Hampshire counties and named for General Daniel Morgan, A Revolutionary War leader who visited the area frequently.

Agriculture and sand glass mining have been, and remain, important industries for the county.

The county seat is in Berkeley Springs, which is home to a mineral spring that has been used for centuries by people who believe is has "curative value."
