Valley of West Virginia. Nestled in Petersburg (near Seneca
Rocks and Dolly Sods) and surrounded by the Monongahela National
Forest, with 848,000 acres of natural wilderness beauty. Eagle's
Nest Outfitters offers you the perfect setting and 80
miles of river for canoeing, fishing, camping, (exciting

whitewater, we'll recommend the isolated Smoke Hole Canyon or
how about the scenic "Trough" fishing or canoeing
trip, where bald eagles nest in towering tree tops.

Nest Outfitters can design an outing to your
specifications. Just ask us, we're here to insure that you enjoy
yourself when you come to Eagle's Nest Outfitters. |

Fishing
At Eagle's Nest Outfitters
we have designed our fishing trips to provide you, the
fisherman, with a maximum of outdoor enjoyment and minimum of
hassle. It is not uncommon to catch up to 75 bass in one day of
fishing. The South Branch of the Potomac River offers excellent
fishing for smallmouth bass, some largemouth bass, trout
(rainbow, brook, brown and golden rainbow), channel catfish,
eels and carp. Pound for pound the smallmouth bass is the
fightingest fish in the river anywhere and we have plenty of
those. The state record smallmouth, 9.75 lbs., is from the South
Branch. In 1992 the state record rainbow trout, 11.53 lbs., came
from the South Branch. The fact is, four state records are from
the South Branch. The present state record (1994) largemouth
bass, 12 lbs. 4 l/2 oz., 25.63 inches, has been caught near
Petersburg. Each year we are in 15 articles done in national
magazines such as "National Geographic, "Sports Afield"
and "Bass Masters," to name a few. One outdoor writer
told us that he has fished across the U.S.A. and still finds the
South Branch his favorite. Not only because he catches more
fish, but also because of the abundance of beautiful wildlife,
such as deer, turkey, bald eagles and Canadian geese.
While we can't guarantee a state
record or even a trophy fish, we'll do everything we can to help
you get the trophy fish or state record you're looking for. At Eagle's
Nest we cater every fishing trip to meet your needs and
wants. We offer trips from six hours to seven days. Remember, if
you want that special guide, call early to get the dates you
want because the guides get booked early. This year guides will
have a scale on guided fishing trips to weigh that trophy fish
so you can get that trophy citation from the state. Our guides
keep updated on the latest fishing information so that when you
come to Eagle's Nest Outfitters we can let you
know what the fish are biting on and where. Also remember that
our fishing guides do everything from teaching first timers how
to fish to cooking meals stream side and setting camp for
overnight trips. Make Eagle's Nest Outfitters your
one stop fishing source. For those of you who want to do trout
fishing, the Smoke Hole/Big Bend to Base is the trip you want to
fish. If you are a bass fisherman any one of our trips has bass
in them. We recommend the Base to Fisher Bridge trip, because
it's a catch and release area, which is holding big bass. We
offer a unique opportunity to learn either fly or spinner rod
fishing for beginners to intermediate level. We not only teach
you how to cast, but how to catch fish. Skills taught include
finding the fish, selecting the bait or lure for the conditions
on the river and the techniques for river fishing, small stream,
lake and pond fishing. Please call Eagle's Nest Outfitters
for prices on guided fishing trips, because we offer different
packages.
Fishing School
Eagle's Nest Outfitters offers an outdoor
adventure of a personal nature that you can afford. You'll enjoy
our professional fun-loving instructors, who will coach you in
learning how to fish from baiting your hook to learning how to
read the river for fish habitat.

Trips
Eagle's Nest Outfitters will run the same
trips as last year. Our trips provide the best trout and bass
fishing in the state.
Prior to trip departure, your questions will be answered. We'll
teach your party canoeing skills and how to pack your food and
equipment in the canoe. So please arrive at the base about one
hour before departure for your trip.
Eagle's Nest Outfitters will personally route your
canoe trip. We teach you fishing techniques, mark the best
campsites, fishing holes, scenic areas and unique points of
interest on the river.
For those of you who want to do the Smoke Hole/Big Bend trip, we
recommend you doing this trip in two days, because of road
conditions. We'll be setting a time slot for the Smoke Hole trip
to leave base at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. As most of you already know,
the Smoke Hole/Big Bend and Smoke Hole Caverns trips are spring
and early summer runs unless we have a hard rain. So, call and
make reservations soon.

Entering Smoke Hole Canyon you will see Cave Mountain
and Eagle Rock -- they are two very noteworthy natural
monuments. As one leaves the Smoke Hole Campgrounds, he enters
the most scenic, most historic, and most famous run in West
Virginia. This is the land of whiskey stills, Indian and Civil
War battles, and above all, mountaineer independence. For the
most part, the river is running through an isolated canyon of
unparalleled grandeur. Mountaineer Farms and homesteads add to
the charm of the run, reminding the paddler of the fortitude and
austerity of early settlers.

This run into Base contains nice water. Many of the
rapids are visible from the road, but soon the river tapers off
to join its mamma, the South Branch, fresh out of Smoke Hole.
Although it is leaving the mountains behind, there are still
some spectacular scenes.

This is a very popular canoeing
stream that contains exquisite scenery and challenging white
water for the novice paddler. One of the great runs to warm up
for the Smoke Hole Run.

This is a very beautiful and
popular canoeing river on which many organizations sponsor large
float trips. It is an ideal river for novices or even a
non-canoeist to run. The paddler will find himself entering the
serenity of a deep canyon with 1500' mountain walls rising
steeply from each side of the river. The vistas are ever
changing and provide spectacular scenery especially in the
spring and fall when seasonal colors are at their peak. There is
very little white water in the Trough, but the scenery more than
makes up for this lack.

This is tremendously beautiful
river no matter which way you look at it. The river passes
between majestic cliffs and high rock mountains that are
interesting. The pools are long and rapids gentle. An excellent
place for the whole family regardless of their interests. Some
people just like to climb one of the many cliffs in the area,
sit on a rock and watch the river, the clouds and the day go by.

Other Offerings
ENO Camp Store: We
sell new and used canoes, plus life jackets, paddles, dry bags,
wet suits, paddling suits and other supplies. We also have a wide
range of rods and reels, lures, bait and other tackle. Licenses
are also available for resident and non-resident fishing and
hunting.
Rental Shop:
Our rental shop has numerous
items to add to your convenience, safety and overall enjoyment
while on the river. A limited supply of dry bags, camera bags,
coolers, wet suits, booties, tents and fishing gear are for rent.
Shuttle:
For you who rent our canoes,
the shuttle price is included in the canoe rental. We have shuttle
service available to individuals who own their canoe, but would
like transportation to and from the river.
Campsites: There
are numerous campsites along the river banks of our two to
five-day trips. It is our opinion that there is no better way to
fully appreciate the beauty and serenity of a canyon than to camp
overnight along the river bank in the heart of the canyon. We
offer camping at our base with bathroom facilities, camp fire and
patio use. Camping at our facility ensures the earliest possible
start the next day. Please call for camping rates.
Fishing School:
Eagle's Nest Outfitters offers an outdoor adventure
of a personal nature that you can afford. You'll enjoy our
professional fun-loving instructors, who will coach you in
learning how to fish -- from baiting your hook to learning how to
read the river for fish habitat.
Canoe Clinic:
Our instructors can work with
you or your child as a beginner, to adults just taking up the
sport of canoeing. You'll learn boat control and river reading
skills that will help you work with the water. You'll practice
safe river habits and have fun learning new ways to play on the
water.
Duckies & Rafts:
Want to get a different
perspective on the river? Ducky trips are the fastest growing
program at Eagle's Nest Outfitters. Adults are
finding that duckies allow them to experience the thrill of white
water kayaking without the investment in training. As duckies are
suitable for all ages, their use makes our trips enjoyable for the
whole family.
Sit-on Kayaks: Torrent
kayaks are the new, hottest thing on the market today. They are
great for enthusiastic beginners, stable and maneuverable. These
crafts are a delightful way to paddle a river. For those of you
that are afraid to paddle a kayak, because of the close enclosure
of the cockpit, now you can sit on top and still enjoy the same
thrills of a kayak.
